Nike launches dot Swoosh platform

Nike has made its latest foray into the web 3 space with the launch of an NFT marketplace named .Swoosh!

The .Swoosh platform is billed as the epicenter for Nike’s digital efforts around Web3. It's designed to spotlight the brand’s NFTs and virtual apparel initiatives, including future ways for customers to become co-creators and share in digital product royalties.

Nike will use the platform as a hub to launch virtual apparel like t-shirts and sneakers for avatars that can be used within Web3 games. It will also utilize Web3 tech to allow users to unlock real-world benefits, such as exclusive physical apparel or chats with pro athletes.

The company plans to gradually let new users into the closed platform through the end of the year, ahead of the first NFT drop in January 2023. Nike's NFT apparel will be minted on Polygon, whereas the previous Nike and RTFKT drops have all been launched via the Ethereum mainnet. It plans to open up user registrations later this week.

Harry & Meghan to build Meg-Averse

Prince Harry and Meghan are planning to make their way into the metaverse. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, England are reportedly building a 3D virtual world where they will be able to reach millions more people across the globe.

According to the report, Harry and Meghan have teamed up with the metaverse platform pax.world to create Meg-averse, an immersive world where they will be able to interact with the global audience. Harry and Meghan could use their virtual universe to hold events, meetings and talks for fans.

Pax.wWorld’s founder Frank Fitzgerald said: “We’re offering Harry and Meghan a plot of prime pax.world land and the chance to collaborate with the world’s leading architects, build on it, and connect with new audiences. If they are to pursue business and entertainment deals, position themselves as thought leaders, and progress their charity work, they must partner with a platform that shares their values.”

The report suggests that the deal could also enable Harry and Meghan to offer various experiential activities including gaming and online communities where the couple appear in 3D avatars of themselves.

PlayStation files NFT patents

Sony’s PlayStation has filed a patent called “Tracking Unique In-Game Digital Assets Using Tokens on a Distributed Ledger.” It primarily focuses on the expected applications for NFTs in gaming, namely creating, using, and modifying in-game assets. The patent was first submitted on May 7, 2021, but published only a few days ago.

The patent uses baseball card collections as an example but notes that the NFTs could have value if they could be transferred across blockchains or platforms. The patent pays particular focus to what is likely the eSports industry, noting that these individuals can have a large following. As such, there could be NFTs associated with these events and individuals commemorating special occasions.
